The Palace of Mysore is the official residence of the Wodeyars - the erstwhile royal family of Mysore that ruled the princely state of Mysore for over seven centuries. The Mysore Palace is now one of the most famous tourist attractions in India after Taj Mahal with more than 2.7 million visitors.
For those interested in museums, Mysore city has a number of them. The Rail Museum is located on KRS Road close the Mysore Railway Station. National Museum of Natural History is on the banks of Karanji Lake. Folk Art Museum is located in Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion, which is inside the Mysore University campus.
